Our Virtual Village™ features topics with tips shared from a global community of “everyday” experts and specialists so we can all benefit from each other’s diverse experiences. Each topic is curated so that all relevant tips contributed by users will be easily found, unlike other platforms where tips on a particular topic might be spread out in more than one discussion and easily missed. Also, Our Virtual Village™ actively seeks out a variety of reliable resources that enhance each topic. Our three-tier menu is designed to present more detailed options and crucial information, under each main topic and subtopic — greatly improving convenience.

  1. I’m confused why most of your topic pages are empty – when will more content be available?

The topics and categories will gradually be filled out with the tips that we are gathering. Since we also seek out supporting resources, this process will take time but will fulfill our mission. We will continually add tips to the topics as more are submitted, so that our bank of tips will grow and become further optimized.

  1. Is Our Virtual Village™ only for moms?

No, we are a virtual village that welcomes and requires not only moms but also dads, grandparents, teachers, caregivers, well-wishers – all “everyday” experts. We have also organized Our Virtual Village™ Closed and Private Facebook Groups to make it easier for everyone to participate and share.

  1. Is Our Virtual Village™ only for parents of little ones?

We are a virtual village – a resource for any child-centered issue relevant throughout pre-pregnancy to raising children and teens.

  1. Are the tips recommended by doctors?

Tips are contributed by “everyday experts” (moms, dads and any well-wishers) and even from specialists who might be doctors, but should not be taken as medical advice. Please consult a physician regarding medications and medical issues.

  1. How and where can I share my tips?

You can share tips here on ourvirtualvillage.org, or join our Facebook closed and private groups. We will periodically post a new topic and request tips. You can share your tips under such a post.

  1. How will my tips be shared?

We compile tips to be concise and quick to grasp by all our readers from diverse backgrounds. Tips are shared in the relevant topic pages and may also be cross-referenced in similar topics.

  1. Do the tips I share need to be of a certain length?

We encourage short, concise tips to help those who need to read them in a hurry. We also welcome your stories and experiences that will be shared through links.

  1. Does my name have to be added to the tip?

Associating your name with your tip is optional. Sometimes people choose only their first name or last name. On our website, tips may be shared anonymously by using the privacy avatar. On Facebook, please include “No” at the beginning of a tip if you wish your name not to be associated with it.

  1. Why are names of the contributors associated with the tips?

We honor the person by adding their name.

  1. Do we have to add location (country) with our tip?

We encourage you to add your country as it represents the global virtual village.

  1. What is the “privacy” avatar/profile feature?

There are sensitive topics that not everyone is comfortable discussing in a public forum, such as infertility and breastfeeding. We want to make it easy for people to share their tips within their comfort level so that the community may benefit from each other’s experiences.

  1. Won’t some people misuse the “privacy” avatar/profile feature?

Only those who have registered with us (via an email confirmation) can use the privacy feature. Any abusive comments can be reported and the admin will intervene when appropriate.

  1. How soon will I see my tips compiled on the topic?

For a given topic, once we gather a substantial body of tips and identify helpful resources to include, then we will publish the topic page on a non-regular schedule.

  1. Where can I post queries and request tips?

Please join one or more of Our Virtual Village™ closed & private Facebook groups and post queries or request tips from the members in the relevant group.

  1. What are the privacy options available for the pictures that I share?

Like other platforms, we are unfortunately not able to provide any security at present.

  1. Are products that are recommended by Our Virtual Village™ sponsored?

No. You might see sponsored ads on the page and those will carry the tag “Sponsored Ad.”

  1. What kind of sponsors are you accepting?

We welcome anyone who is in alignment with the endeavor of Our Virtual Village™. We carefully select all resources in our topics. Likewise, the products or services of a sponsor must not be questionable, e.g., no questionable ingredients or practices. For example, we promote breastfeeding rather than formula. We therefore would carry an advertisement from a formula company with a caption such as “Researched supplement option.” We will not carry an advertisement for a product or service that has been considered unsafe.

  1. The products suggested on the website seem to be mostly available in the USA. Will you list products that are available in other countries?

Our endeavor is to feature country-specific tips, resources and product suggestions in the future and in more languages. This will gradually come into place as Our Virtual Village™ continues to grow.

  1. Can I call Our Virtual Village™ for support?

Currently that feature is unavailable but we expect to provide various support services in the future.

  1. I would like to look up businesses and service providers related to children in my area/country. Will that feature be available on Our Virtual Village™?

Yes, that is one of our plans for the future.
